I’ve found that eBooks generally have good, valid information in them but exaggerate the scarcity of it… meaning that this same good information could be found in about five minutes of Google searching without paying $ 20 for a PDF file.

what harm can you cause by using a e-collar on a dog?

Question by : what harm can you cause by using a e-collar on a dog?
I am thinking of having my dog trained using a shock collar for seperation anxiety. I am not sure it’s a good Idea. what are the drawbacks of using an electric collar on a dog who was rescued 20months ago and has seperation anxiety.

    Answer by Katie
There are no short cuts or magic bullets for training a dog that can substitute for relationship building, skillful teaching, and practicing good habits. If you have to keep a shock collar on your dog to assure that he obeys you, you most assuredly do not have a well trained dog.

Shock collars are a relatively expensive training tool that much easier to misuse than to use correctly, that are designed to work by causing discomfort and even pain, and that all too often produce undesirable fall out in the dog’s behavior.

To use shock as an effective dog training method you will need:

A thorough understanding of canine behavior.

A thorough understanding of learning theory.

    Impeccable timing.

And if you have those three things, you don’t need a shock collar. –Author unknown

Can you tell me some positive experiences you have had with electronic dog training collars?

Question by rcpubtree: Can you tell me some positive experiences you have had with electronic dog training collars?
I know many people don’t like the idea of using electronic shock training collars. But I also know most people don’t know how to train their dogs properly which results in dogs biting people, running away and getting hit by cars. Tell me some positive stories.

would you use an electronic child strap so your kid learnt to use the toilet.

do you not think that shocking your dog over and over is, in the end, going to mean something will “shock” you in return?

if you cannot deal with a dog being a dog (because, guess what, that IS what they are), then do not get one.
Do not have a ‘pet’ if you cannot handle their animal nature.

how soon can you start potty training?

Question by friends r gifts we give ourself: how soon can you start potty training?
i know it’s too early for me to start training my son (he just turned 13 months old today), but i’d like to know in the future when i can start, i bought him a peter potty, http://www.peterpotty.com/images/img_product.jpg already, now he’s just started walking on his own

but i’ve heard all kinds of different ages, my neighbor told me she had her daughter potty trained by 18 months, a friend told me that she had her son completely potty trained by 19 months, and they both told me that they started trying to train their kids as soon as they learned to walk, and then i’ve had other moms tell me that their toddler was 3 before they started training and they had them trained in a month, i’m so confused by this stuff

i bought him the potty doll, the potty, the potty videos and books, the peter, elmo potty, and everything else potty training i’ve found, so i’m wondering when you started training your baby?
he does grab his diaper right before he pees every time, he’s been doing that since he was 10 months old
thank you tang, that’s what i was looking for, so i’d know when to start, he can walk, but he is no where close to being ready to walk to the bathroom and take his pants off. lol

Potty training with a 2 year old, and I have a 1 year old.?

Question by Desiree: potty training with a 2 year old, and I have a 1 year old.?
My daughter just turned 2 years old last weekend. And She has been talking about the potty and stripping her clothes off. even mastered the zipper.
I think its time for the both of us. So Im going to begin.
Not sure where to start as this will be the first time I ever potty train.

On top of that my son will turn 1 in a couple weeks.!! So Im thinking that will make this a bit more difficult. SInce unlike her he is every where already and in everything. She was delayed a bit and didnt start walking on her own until 16 months. He is already taking a couple steps on his own.

I guess Im looking for some advice and any tips. I also work second shift 3pm-11pm and my DH works 8am-5pm. So I know that will make things hard.

Any suggestions for the best books on potty-training methods for twins?

Question by Colleen S: Any suggestions for the best books on potty-training methods for twins?
    Looking for book suggestions/methods on potty-training my boy/girl twins…

Anyone who may have experience with multiples…I’d love to hear from….

Should I work with each one separately instead of together? (I think my daughter will be ready way sooner than my son).

FYI – they just turned 2 1/2 and we tried for a bit before, but were not ready AT ALL & I didn’t want to force it. However now at their age I’m getting more pressure from family & I’m really not sure where to start. Any suggestions?

    Thanks so much!

i dont have much advice, as my twins are around the age of yours and its a lot different trying to potty train two, harder probably for you considering the 2 genders.. one of my daughters was ready not to long after she was a year.. yes she was ready early.. we tried to train her and at 1.5 years she was doing great, her sister on the other hand didnt seem to be ready, but would scream if she didnt get to wear undies.. and when she did she pee’d everywhere and refused to use the potty.. if the one that was ready was in a diaper it was a lost cause.. so i was trying to make it work so everyones needs were met, but it didnt work, it backfired.. now the one that wasnt ready is more ready and the one that was ready doesnt care much.. i guess i missed my window on her but were getting there and making progress.. its hard to train two when they are not responding to it the same.. what makes it hard is one always wants to do what the other does.. but sometimes not really.. its hard..

I would say to try to focus on them separate.. see if they respond better to that, I’m like you i dont want to push it, so i figure they will not be in diapers forever, so im gonna just let them take their time with it.. what makes it hard is i work and no one else will ever put undies on em.. i can go a week without working and have them in undies and they dont have to many accidents.. but then at someone else’s house no one takes time with them(they are watched only by family) so its tricky.. it will happen.. good luck sorry in not any help, but wanted to share with you my situtation

What is the best online dog training course ? ?

Question by : What is the best online dog training course ? ?
I want to be a dog trainer and heard that the online courses are quite good. its hard to find which ones are legit, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any good ones? Ones that involve how to run a dog training business as well as dog behaviour and training.
    Thanks for your help x

Answer by Keith – Cimex K9
I can’t say that I agree with online courses being good. There may be some value in taking online courses, but you need to get out in the real world as soon as possible. There are a few dog training schools out there, but do your research as many school’s training programs are extremely different.

I myself have concentrated more on the dog behavior side of things and that has seen to give me an edge in the dog training business considering typical obedience trainers are surely not in short supply. Rather than using commands and obedience to try to control bad behavior I suggest that you try to find a mentor to shadow that can explain why a dog is behaving a certain way which can fix the problem permanently and naturally.

Human psychology and dog psychology can be the same in many ways…. but totally opposite in many ways and I have even some of the most experienced dog trainers not even realize this nor were ever taught this.

The challenge will be finding someone to mentor under in your area as these type of trainers are a diamond in the rough.

    Good Luck!

The PTPA has been the best investment I have made in my dog. My dog is totally potty trained with the PTPA and I have no odors in my house. Dogs hate going outside when the weather is bad and I’m thankful I have had the PTPA for this winter. When the weather is nice or when I take my dog for a walk, he knows it’s okay to also potty outside. He never has accidents in my home and he knows that he only has one spot in my home that he is allowed to potty. I also never have to rush home to let him out to potty.

People are so used to the old-fashioned way of potty training and I always believe that keeping an open mind to new and better ways of doing things is the wise way to think. I have a full-time job and simply could not let my puppy outside every 1-2 hours, plus it’s freezing outside!

My dog uses it just like the dogs in the YouTube video, which is what sold me in the beginning. I like the fact that their video actually shows real dogs using it, which is what convinced me before I bought it, that it definitely works.
